These 76 Subway stores are listed as halal: the UK list

Subway no longer publishes which of its UK stores are halal, so L’Express Franchise compiled the list itself: 76 Subway stores listed as halal on the Zabihah halal directory and still shown as open on Subway’s own UK store directory on 3 November 2026. London has 32 of them, Birmingham 10, Scotland 4 and Wales 1. No store in Northern Ireland appears on either list.

Updated in November 2026. Subway’s official UK directory lists 2,037 store pages, and only a minority of Subway stores in the UK serve halal food. The list below is the most complete one that can be checked against Subway’s own data, and it is unlikely to be exhaustive: a store missing from it may still be halal, which is why the section on checking a store matters as much as the list. What a halal Subway store is

A halal Subway store serves only halal-certified meat and no pork. Subway has said that in its halal stores, ham and bacon are replaced by turkey ham and turkey rashers, and that all halal meats are certified by the appropriate halal authorities.

In statements reported over the years, the company has also said it requires suppliers of halal products to stun animals before slaughter, and that halal stores carry signs on the menu panels, the nutritional information and the front window. Reports on halal Subway stores describe meat certified through the Islamic Foundation of Ireland, with some stores also displaying Halal Food Authority certificates.

Halal Subway stores are a decision made store by store, not a national policy. Subway said in its statements that a programme set up in 2007 takes the local population into account when new stores open, which is why halal stores cluster in parts of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford and Glasgow.

How this list of halal Subway stores was compiled

Subway once offered a halal filter on its UK store finder, which its UK account pointed customers to in 2022. That filter is no longer available, and the store pages on Subway’s UK directory carry no halal label. The list below therefore combines two sources:

• Halal status: the Zabihah halal restaurant directory, which listed 107 UK Subway entries in November 2026
• Open stores: Subway’s own UK store directory, checked address by address on 3 November 2026, with the postcode taken from each Subway store page
• Matching rule: same town, same street number where there is one, and same street; for generic addresses such as a High Street, the postcode area had to match too
• Excluded: 30 entries, either because no Subway store appears at that address on Subway’s directory today, or because the match could not be confirmed; one duplicate entry was also removed

East London has the densest halal Subway coverage, with stores in Walthamstow, Leyton, Leytonstone, Stratford, East Ham, Mile End and Bethnal Green, followed by north-west London around Wembley, Harlesden and Neasden.

How to check whether a Subway store is halal

• Window and menu signage: halal stores display halal signs in the front window, on the menu panels and on the nutritional information
• The certificate: a certificate from the certifying body is usually displayed in store, and staff can be asked to show it
• The menu: a halal store sells turkey ham and turkey rashers, not ham or bacon
• Delivery apps: some Subway listings on delivery apps carry a halal tag, and Subway’s own app wording on those platforms advises checking with the store
• Ask the store: the store is the only source that can confirm its current status

Is Subway a franchise?

Yes. Subway stores in the UK are run by franchisees, and whether a store is halal is set when the store is opened, in line with the local programme described above. Subway’s ongoing fees are consistent across published sources: a royalty of 8% and an advertising fee of 4.5% of gross sales, 12.5% in total, paid every week.
