Papa Johns franchise partner hands 19 shops to son

Jaswinder Singh Chatha, founder of London and south-east Papa Johns franchise partner Chatha Franchises, has retired after 29 years in the trade. His son, Preet Chatha, has taken over the 19-shop operation and renamed it PSC Pizza Group, following what he describes as 90 consecutive weeks of year-on-year growth.

The handover was reported by trade title Propel on 16 September 2026, as part of its coverage of UK hospitality franchise partners. PPapa Johns is a franchised network in the UK, and Chatha Franchises built a presence of pizza shops across London and the M25 over close to three decades, the territory model most of the fast food franchises recruiting in the UK expand through.

Preet Chatha said the estate grew from seven shops to 19 under his leadership before the ownership change, and that the newly renamed PSC Pizza Group intends to keep expanding within the same territory.

Jaswinder Singh Chatha built the franchise business after arriving in the UK in 1995. Preet Chatha, franchise partner at PSC Pizza Group, said: “My dad came to this country in 1995 with just £5 to his name and bought his first Domino’s franchise in March 1997.”

The family’s franchise interests later extended into Papa Johns, and Chatha Franchises grew into a multi-site operator across London and the south-east before this year’s ownership change. The renamed PSC Pizza Group keeps the same 19 shops, with Preet Chatha now leading the business his father founded.

Papa Johns operates as a franchise in the UK, recruiting both externally and through its own “Homegrown Heroes” programme, which promotes existing staff into ownership. According to Papa Johns’ own franchise pages, the initial franchise fee is £18,500 plus VAT per unit, with an ongoing management services fee of 5% of net sales and a national marketing fee of 4% of net sales. The franchisee separately covers rent, business rates and utilities on each site. Chatha Franchises, now trading as PSC Pizza Group, operates under this fee structure across its 19 shops in London and the M25.

Good to know

Papa Johns’ UK franchise fee is published on its own site: £18,500 plus VAT to open a unit, then ongoing fees of 5% of net sales for management services and 4% for national marketing, on top of the franchisee’s own rent, rates and utilities.

Preet Chatha said the business has recorded 90 consecutive weeks of year-on-year growth, a run he attributes to consistent operating standards across the estate as it expanded from seven shops to 19. Propel’s report did not include turnover or profit figures for the group, and PSC Pizza Group’s own Companies House filing history was not checked for this article.

The handover is nonetheless a rare example, in UK trade coverage, of a second generation taking over a multi-site franchise operation intact, rather than the operation being sold to an outside buyer or handed back to the franchisor.

Preet Chatha has not set out a published target for further shops, and Papa Johns has not commented publicly on the ownership change beyond the trade coverage of it. The renamed group continues to trade under the Papa Johns fascia across its existing 19 sites in London and the M25, with the same management fees and marketing contribution applying regardless of who holds the franchise.

Multi-site franchise partners changing hands within a family, rather than through an open resale, remain uncommon enough in UK trade coverage to be treated as a story in their own right. Brands recruiting partners on published terms can be compared across the UK franchise directory.
