Burger King has opened its fourth Peterborough restaurant, taking over a vacant former Frankie & Benny’s unit at Boongate Retail Park. The site opens on Friday 11 September 2026 and has created 25 jobs. The opening adds to an estate that Burger King UK‘s master franchisee, Bridgepoint, has committed to growing by 30 new restaurants a year from 2026.
The new restaurant sits at Boongate Retail Park, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, opposite The Range, B&M and Smyths Toys, in a unit last occupied by Frankie & Benny’s. It is a new site rather than a relocation, and Peterborough’s fourth Burger King, joining existing restaurants at Maskew Avenue, Serpentine Green Shopping Centre and Queensgate. Floor area for the new unit has not been published.
A converted unit at Boongate Retail Park
The restaurant opened at 10am on 11 September, with hours from 10am to 9pm on opening day. From its second day, it will run drive-thru service from 8am to midnight and dine-in from 8am to 11pm. Burger King marked the opening with 1,000 free burgers, Whoppers, Plant-Based Whoppers, Chicken Royales and Vegan Royales, given away on a first-come, first-served basis, and a year’s supply of meals at the restaurant for the 100th customer through the door.
How Burger King UK’s estate is structured
Bridgepoint, the private equity firm that has held Burger King’s UK master franchise since 2017, extended its agreement to 2044 in December 2025, alongside a funding package of around £35 million to support 30 new restaurant openings a year from 2026, with a particular focus on motorway service stations.
Burger King UK’s roughly 574 outlets are a mix of company-operated and area-franchised restaurants, and the company has been buying back sites from franchise partners in recent years, including 74 restaurants from the Karali Group in 2022. No operator or franchise partner is named for the Peterborough restaurant, so whether it is company-run or held under an area-franchise agreement has not been confirmed.

Bridgepoint’s expansion target of 30 new restaurants a year makes Peterborough one of the early openings under the extended master franchise agreement. Burger King UK reported turnover of £408.3 million for 2025, up 7% on the previous year, and Bridgepoint’s stated focus on motorway service stations alongside high street and retail park sites suggests further openings across a range of formats.
