One Stop opens a new convenience store on Cocklebury Road in Chippenham, Wiltshire, on Friday 2 October 2026, close to the town centre. It is a new site rather than a relocation, and it joins the brand’s Market Place and Sheldon Road branches in a town where One Stop has already made changes this year.

The shop is a new convenience store, not a move from an existing address. It is due to open on Friday 2 October 2026 on Cocklebury Road, on the side of Chippenham near the town centre.

One Stop is the convenience arm of Tesco and one of the UK’s recognised franchise brands, alongside the other food and drink networks recruiting UK operators. The company has not published a floor area or the number of jobs the opening creates, and neither figure is given here.

The range follows the usual One Stop format for a neighbourhood store. Shoppers can expect fresh and chilled food, including meat and dairy, alongside ready meals and desserts. A lunchtime meal deal is part of the offer, aimed at people working or studying nearby who want a quick midday option without a trip to a supermarket.

For residents on the Cocklebury Road side of town, the shop gives a closer option for a top-up shop than the other One Stop branches, though no walking or driving distances have been published.

The team that will run the operation is due to open the branch, which suggests a franchisee-run store rather than one managed by the company. The operator has not been named, and its status as an independent franchisee has not been confirmed with One Stop. Until it is, this article describes the store as a One Stop branch and does not describe it as an independent owner’s shop.

One Stop is a franchise, symbol groups are not

One Stop trades under a franchise model. That is different from the symbol groups Premier, Best-one, Londis and Nisa, which work through supply-and-fascia agreements rather than franchising. A shopper cannot tell the difference from the shopfront, but a person thinking of running a store can: the legal relationship and what the brand provides are not the same.

Cocklebury Road is not the only change in the town this year. The One Stop branch at 28-29 Market Place, which also houses the town’s Post Office, closed at the start of June 2026 for a management takeover. It reopened under new ownership on or around 18 June 2026.

The Post Office counter at that address had already seen repeated closures, which were reported in January 2026. A One Stop on Sheldon Road was already trading before the Cocklebury Road opening, so the new shop gives the brand three branches in the town.

The sequence matters for local shoppers. Within a few months, one branch has changed hands, a Post Office counter has gone through a management change at the same address, and a new store has been added. Whether the new opening is a sign of wider expansion in Chippenham or a one-off has not been said by the company.

Several details are still open. The name of the franchisee, the floor area in square feet, the number of jobs created, and the opening hours have not been published, and no UK register records which stores are franchised either, unlike the terms brands publish when recruiting operators in the UK.

The distances between the Cocklebury Road shop and the Sheldon Road and Market Place branches have not been published either. The opening date of 2 October 2026 comes from a local report published on 18 September 2026, which described the opening as a matter of weeks away.

The next step is the opening itself on Friday 2 October. Once the shop trades, the operator’s name and the size of the team should become clear, and the company can confirm the jobs figure. If the store is run by a franchisee, the arrangement would sit alongside the Market Place branch, which changed management in June, and the Sheldon Road branch. For people in Chippenham, the practical question is simple: whether the new shop on Cocklebury Road, with its fresh food, ready meals and meal deal, becomes the closest option for a daily shop.
