Walk-in barbershops and compact Barber Pods for retail parks, high streets and forecourts
Route 8 Barbers runs walk-in barbershops, with no booking required, at locations across the south and the Midlands and in Darlington: Swindon, Bristol (Emersons Green and Bradley Stoke), Oxford, Reading, Basingstoke, Milton Keynes, Cheltenham and Salisbury. Many of its shops sit in retail parks and shopping centres rather than on the high street.
It now offers its model as a franchise in two formats. The Route 8 Barber Shop is a traditional shop for high streets, shopping centres, retail parks and busy local parades. The Route 8 Barber Pod is a compact barbershop that can be placed in or beside high-footfall sites such as retail parks, supermarkets, leisure destinations and forecourts.
A franchise built around the right location
Location support is central to the offer. Route 8 helps franchisees identify and assess sites against local demographics, demand, footfall, visibility, parking, competition and likely trading performance before they commit, and provides a detailed investment assessment once a location and format are chosen.
Barbering experience is not essential. Franchisees receive pre-opening training in operations, customer service, booking and EPOS systems, staff management and brand standards, followed by opening support, marketing guidance and ongoing development. Protected territory arrangements are set out in the franchise agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Route 8 Barbers franchise cost?
Route 8 puts the total investment at approximately £35,000 to £75,000, depending on the format, location, premises, fit-out, equipment and working capital. The initial franchise fee within that is £12,500 plus VAT. All figures are indicative and subject to the final franchise agreement.
What ongoing fees does a Route 8 Barbers franchisee pay?
Route 8 currently proposes an ongoing royalty of 7% of net turnover, plus a marketing contribution of 2% of net turnover.
What is a Route 8 Barber Pod?
A compact barbershop format designed for high-footfall locations such as retail parks, supermarkets, leisure destinations, shopping developments and forecourts. It needs a smaller footprint than a traditional shop.
Do you need to be a barber to own a Route 8 franchise?
Not necessarily. Route 8 looks for ambitious, commercially minded people who are comfortable leading a team. Barbering experience can help, but the franchise provides training and operational support.
Will Route 8 help find a location?
Yes. Route 8 helps identify and assess potential sites, including traditional shops and retail park locations for the Barber Pod, by looking at demographics, demand, footfall, visibility, parking and competition.
How long is the Route 8 Barbers franchise agreement?
The proposed initial term is five years, subject to the final franchise agreement, with renewal provisions still to be agreed.
Does a Route 8 franchise come with a protected territory?
Route 8 assesses each opportunity on territory availability, local demand and site suitability. Protected territory arrangements are set out in the franchise agreement.
Where are Route 8 Barbers shops?
Route 8 lists barbershops in Swindon, Bristol (Emersons Green and Bradley Stoke), Oxford, Reading, Basingstoke, Milton Keynes, Cheltenham, Salisbury and Darlington.
