Lucky Voice

A Lucky Voice franchise is a private room karaoke venue, and the brand is recruiting partners in the UK after building its own estate over twenty years.

The idea came from a 24-hour karaoke marathon in Japan. Martha Lane Fox, who had co-founded lastminute.com, developed it with Nick Thistleton, Julian Douglas and Jonny Shaw, and the first venue opened on Poland Street in Soho in 2005. The estate now covers Soho, Islington, Holborn, Liverpool Street and Waterloo in London, plus Brighton, with a franchised venue in Dubai.

Venues combine soundproofed private rooms holding four to thirty singers with a bar area, DJ and food. Each room runs an in-house karaoke interface with a library of over 11,000 songs and the brand’s ‘Thirsty’ button for room service. The Waterloo site, opened in 2024, was a £1.6 million investment and the company’s first south of the river.

Two formats are offered. The full Destination format is an urban flagship of 3,500 to 5,000 sq ft with dedicated bar and kitchen infrastructure and eight to ten pods. The Pods+ box-in-box model fits 1,500 to 2,500 sq ft inside an existing venue such as a hotel or a larger entertainment site, which makes it a way of using space a partner already holds.

Area Development Rights are available for partners wanting several sites in a defined region. The company has said it intends to develop UK franchises with a small number of high-quality partners rather than a broad network.
