Illinois multi-unit operator Grube has acquired 25 Buffalo Wild Wings sports bars directly from parent company Inspire Brands, pushing its traditional portfolio past 100 locations. The transaction closes as Inspire prepares a potential public offering and continues offloading corporate-held units to proven franchisee partners across its portfolio.

Grube now operates more than 100 traditional Buffalo Wild Wings locations alongside five Buffalo Wild Wings Go units following the acquisition, confirmed by the Restaurant Finance Monitor. The franchisee group also holds a multi-unit Marco’s Pizza portfolio, making it a significant multi-brand operator in the Midwest. Citizens Capital Markets & Advisory served as financial adviser to Inspire Brands on the deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 25 acquired units are located in Illinois, one of Grube’s established operating markets. Even before this acquisition, Grube ranked among the larger Buffalo Wild Wings franchisee operators in the system.

The addition of these Illinois locations gives the group greater market density, a structure that multi-unit operators typically pursue to reduce per-location logistics costs and strengthen field management. Grube’s parallel Marco’s Pizza operations reflect a strategy common among large regional franchisees: building scale in one brand while diversifying into a complementary category.

Inspire Brands confidentially submitted its IPO registration statement to the SEC in May 2026, with private equity backer Roark Capital targeting a valuation of approximately $20 billion. The company operates more than 33,000 locations globally across Buffalo Wild Wings, Arby’s, Sonic Drive-In, Dunkin’, Baskin-Robbins, and Jimmy John’s, generating roughly $33 billion in annual system sales.

The proceeds from a public offering are expected to go toward repaying existing debt. Selling corporate restaurants to franchisees ahead of a listing is a recognized approach among restaurant holding companies looking to present a leaner, more asset-light profile to public market investors.

Buffalo Wild Wings has navigated the headwinds common to sit-down sports bar dining in recent years, including pressure on labor costs and continued softness in weekday traffic. Inspire Brands has responded in part by expanding the smaller-format Buffalo Wild Wings Go concept, which targets trade areas that cannot support a full-size location.

Grube already operates five Go units, indicating the group is committed to the brand’s evolving format strategy. Large-scale franchisee acquisitions of corporate-held locations have become a recurring feature of the current restaurant landscape, as franchisors prioritize asset-light models and experienced operators look for established footprints in known markets.

Further refranchising activity across Inspire Brands’ portfolio is possible as the company advances its IPO preparations. Publicly listed restaurant conglomerates have historically faced scrutiny over their corporate-owned restaurant counts and capital allocation, two factors that tend to push holding companies toward higher franchise ratios over time.

For large, experienced operators like Grube, this environment has represented an opportunity to absorb established locations in familiar markets without the construction timelines of new builds. The timing and terms of any Inspire Brands IPO remain subject to SEC review and market conditions.
