Spain, Portugal, and France rank among the world’s largest seafood-consuming markets, and a US restaurant franchise brand is now scouting all three. Captain D’s announced on June 10 that its senior vice president of international operations and development will tour the three countries from June 15 to July 1 to meet prospective franchise partners across Western Europe.

The Nashville-based chain operates more than 530 restaurants across 23 states and three countries, positioning itself as a national leader in the fast-casual seafood category. The European tour follows a recent United Kingdom entry built around a 20-unit development agreement, which the company describes as the strategic base for wider regional growth. The expansion highlights the strength of the company’s franchise model as it seeks to grow its presence across the continent, supported by shared operations and regional infrastructure already established through the UK deal.

According to the announcement, Hair Parra, senior vice president of international operations and development, will meet qualified investors, restaurateurs, multi-unit franchisees, and master franchise candidates during the trip. The targeted cities include Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia in Spain; Lisbon in Portugal; and Paris, Lyon, and Nice in France. The company says it is seeking master franchisees and multi-unit developers capable of operating roughly 20 restaurants in each of these large urban markets. Prospective partners who want to meet the team during the visit have been directed to the brand’s international development contact.

“Spain, Portugal, and France are among the largest seafood-consuming markets in the world, which makes them natural destinations for Captain D’s,” said Hair Parra, senior vice president of international operations and development. “We believe our combination of high-quality seafood, operational simplicity, and a strong franchise business model offers an attractive opportunity for experienced operators.” The company also points to heavy tourist traffic in the three countries as a factor shaping commercial opportunity for an upscale fast-casual seafood concept.

Founded in 1969, Captain D’s has built its menu around batter-dipped wild Alaskan fish, premium grilled options such as shrimp, salmon, and whitefish, seafood platters, hush puppies, and made-to-order sides. For more than 50 years, the brand has positioned itself around high-quality seafood at affordable prices. It has ranked No. 1 in the seafood category for eight consecutive years on Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 list and topped the QSR 50 seafood ranking by average unit volume. With the European visit set to run through July 1, the company has framed the meetings as an early stage of partner identification rather than a finalized expansion, while pointing to the UK agreement as the operational foundation for any growth that follows.
