Happy Belly Food Group Inc. has announced that its Heal Wellness brand has signed a second franchise agreement for the City of Ottawa, Ontario. The brand specializes in fresh smoothie bowls, açaí bowls, and smoothies, operating as a quick-service restaurant concept.
Sean Black, Chief Executive Officer of Happy Belly, expressed enthusiasm about deepening the company’s presence in Ottawa, noting that Heal continues to build momentum through a steady cadence of new franchise agreements and strategic real estate signings nationwide. Ottawa is already home to several other Happy Belly brands, including Pirho Fresh Greek Grill, Yolks Breakfast, and Via Cibo Italian Street Food, making this new agreement a natural extension of the group’s footprint in the capital.
A Brand on the Rise Across Canada and the U.S.
Heal Wellness currently has 37 locations open and more than 171 in development, reflecting a remarkable growth trajectory in the competitive wellness food segment. These results contribute to Happy Belly’s broader portfolio of 666 contractually committed retail franchise locations across multiple emerging brands in various stages of development, construction, and operation.
The brand’s ambitions now extend well beyond Canadian borders. Happy Belly recently signed its first U.S. franchise agreement for Heal Wellness, covering a location in Lubbock, Texas, near Texas Tech University — a high-traffic area well-aligned with the brand’s health-conscious customer base. The Texas launch is expected to serve as a test market for further U.S. expansion, with the state identified as a priority region due to its population growth, climate, and demand for health-oriented food concepts.
More from L’Express Franchise
Heal Wellness was founded with the mission to provide quick, fresh wellness foods that support a busy and active lifestyle, with a menu built around superfoods such as açaí, pitaya, goji berries, and chia seeds. For Canadian franchise investors, this dual momentum — a deepening presence in Ottawa alongside a first U.S. foothold — signals a brand executing on a disciplined, scalable growth strategy on both sides of the border.
